Calle Crisologo, Vigan
Calle Crisologo in Vigan, Ilocos Sur province, is one of the Philippines' most beautiful alleys, despite being barely 500 meters long. It has a dense concentration of centuries-old stone houses, beautiful tungsten lighting, and historic cobblestone, where horse-drawn carriages called calesas are still utilized for transportation to this day. Except for calesas used to visit the town's historic landmarks, the roadway is a pedestrian-only zone.
Several of the ancestral dwellings have been converted into eateries serving Ilocos bagnet (deep fried pig belly) and empanadas. Some have been converted into inns and souvenir shops selling inabel linen. Throughout Calle Crisologo, tourists may find many well-crafted wooden benches.
The dry season, from November to May, is the greatest time to visit Calle Crisologo and other sites in Vigan City, as many of these sights are best explored by strolling. If you want to avoid the rain and the harsh summer heat, visit during the dry but cooler months of December through February. Vigan celebrates various events during the month of January, making it an excellent time to learn about the town's culture in addition to seeing its beautiful sites and landmarks.
