Cathédrale de Monaco

Cathédrale de Monaco is the next name on the list of the best places in Monaco. The magnificent exterior of this neo-Byzantine cathedral is made of white stones from neighboring La Turbie. The Princes of Monaco are buried in the cathedral, which also houses the tombs of prior monarchs, Prince Rainier and Princess Grace. The sanctuary has an altarpiece by the Niçois painter Louis Bréa dating from 1500, despite the fact that the cathedral is relatively new (constructed between 1875 and 1884). The Episcopal throne, fashioned from Carrara marble, is another notable work of art.

Cathédrale de Monaco boasts a magnificent grand organ that is used for religious services and sacred music events. From September through June, Mass is held every Sunday at 10:00 am, with music provided by the "Les Petits Chanteurs de Monaco" and "La Maîtrise de la Cathédrale" choirs. Except for religious services, the cathedral is open to the public (free entrance). Visitors must dress appropriately. Individuals who wear sleeveless tops, shoulder-baring tops, miniskirts, or shorts will not be admitted to visit.
