CentralWorld – 5.9 million sq ft
The eight-story Centralworld in Bangkok is the second-largest shopping mall in Thailand and one of the top 10 largest shopping malls in the world by 2021. It was opened in 1990. In 2006, after three years of design and renovation, Centralworld expanded to a 550,000 m (5,900,000 sq ft) shopping center and an 830,000 m (8,900,000 sq ft) complex. In terms of size, it outperformed its closest competitor, Siam Paragon.
Centralworld was temporarily closed due to a severe arson attack in Thailand where soldiers removed protesters from the area during political protests on May 19, 2010 in Thailand. The surrounding area of Zen has been badly damaged by the mob. The Apple Store is located in Central World Square, close to Central Department Store. It is recognized as the largest Apple Store in Southeast Asia.
