Chopta
This stunning hill station - Chopta is considered to be amongst the best mountainside getaways and one of the most beautiful places to visit in Uttarakhand. Located in the Garhwal region, it is often referred to as the ‘Mini Switzerland of India’ for its scenic beauty. This mostly undiscovered area is ideal for environment enthusiasts as well as those who enjoy the challenges of trekking, rock climbing, camping, and spotting endangered Himalayan species. It is one of the few locations that provide views of 41 of the most well-known Himalayan peaks, including Trishul, Nanda Devi, Chaukhamba, and others. Emerald-green meadows, the mystery that comes with 1,000-year-old worship sites, and stories all add to the area's natural beauty.
The highlight of the place: The 1000-year-old Tungnath Temple, one of the highest Shiva Temples in the world including other ancient temples like Kalimath, Ukhimath, and Omkar Ratneshwar Mahadev. Explore treks like Chandrashila, Devaria Tal, Rohini Bugyal, etc. Kanchula Korak Musk Deer Sanctuary for spotting the elusive musk deer, Himalayan Griffon, snow leopards, Himalayan pit viper, etc. The summer months (March through June) are the best times to visit Chopta to avoid the heat of the plains. Landslides occur during the monsoon season (July to August), thus it is essential to consult the locals before traveling.
