College of Southern Idaho Dental Clinic
The dental hygiene program trains students to provide dental care to patient populations. Didactic, clinical and laboratory training is designed to transform students into valuable members of the dental health team. Graduates of the program can become licensed registered dental hygienists (RDHs). RDH uses educational theories and methodologies to analyze oral health needs. Trained educational services develop public relations strategies and ensure oral health for individuals and groups. As clinicians, RDH evaluates, plans, and implements treatments for the prevention, intervention, and control of oral disease, and collaborates with other professionals. RHD provides routine patient care and treatment of periodontal disease from early to advanced stages.
The preparatory course is listed on the CSI website. This program takes students two years and requires an application for admission. Each year, 10 students are selected to participate in the dental hygiene program. The Southern Idaho College dental hygiene program is accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation. This program prepares students for success on the National Dental Hygiene Examination administered by the Joint Commission of the American Dental Association and the Western Regional Board (WREB) examination.
