Cusco
Despite the fact that Lima is Peru's official capital, Cusco has a richer history and culture, thanks to its past as the Inca Empire's capital. From the remains of Koricancha to the amusingly titled Sacsayhuaman (meaning "sexy woman"), a Boleto Turistico del Cusco permit grants admission to 15 significant historic sites. Most visitors are tempted to leave Cusco as soon as possible, with Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail just over the hills. However, for the patient tourist willing to remain an extra day or two, this magnificent colonial city shows even more of its delights.
The magnificent Plaza Armas in the city's center is another must-see. The area, which is home to Cusco Cathedral, is always bustling, with stores and cafes around the perimeter. You should also pay a visit to the bustling San Pedro Market and stroll through the San Blas neighborhood, which is home to a number of charming shops and boutiques.
Visit the Museo del Pisco for cocktail workshops and to learn how to make the iconic Peruvian cocktail, the pisco sour. Finally, venture outside of town to learn about the Sacred Valley's culture and sceneries.
