Dance To The Music
“Dance To The Music” is an amalgamation of fluttering trumpets, fuzzy guitars and eerie organs that adorn what is essentially a mid-concert performance. But its musical prowess and all-out funk made it a standout, as Sly Stone, guitarist Freddie Stone, bassist Larry Graham and trumpeter Cynthia Robinson all got the lead vocals and rocked the world in fun. The title song was a breakthrough, not only for the group (although it was their first hit), but also for the pop music world at large: it was an early example of a funk song, and it has some elements of rap (percussion track and vocals in particular).
“Dance To The Music” is not just Sly Stone's best song. It's on the first album but it's a good introduction to his music. "Dance To the Music" is a beautiful dance song. What's really interesting is that you hear different instruments playing at a given time. The gumbo of RnB/ Soul/ Gospel/ Rock n Roll/ the birth of a bubbling funk platform creates fiery lines. The transition is also crisp and clear, making it sound as fresh as it was almost 60 years ago. It's easy to see why this band captures everyone's attention because of its upbeat music that's age-appropriate and soulful. The title track is an absolute classic they brought to humanity.
