She Loves You
When it comes to The Beatles, there's a lot of debate about which song defines them. Some may immediately recommend the style of “Hey Jude”, or “Yesterday” because of the huge amount of covers it possesses, or “I Want To Hold Your Hand” because it helped the group explode in the US. But most authors and critics agree that the song that shaped The Beatles' entire catalog must be the UK's best-selling record of the 1960s, i.e. “She Loves You”.
Selling more than 1.3 million copies in its home country, it was the biggest hit in the UK that The Beatles had, even surpassing 1.25 million copies of “I Want To Hold Your Hand”. The cultural impact of “She Loves You” so far is undisputed. However, when it was born, it also encountered many controversies. The power and distinction of “She Loves You” is so strong that, according to the BBC, "in some areas, the song is seen as glorifying the collapse of civilized society". In some parts of Europe, The Beatles are known as the Yeah-Yeahs band. Many politicians across Europe when talking about popular culture have mentioned the music "yeah yeah yeah". In the late 1970s, many Southeast Asian countries still banned The Beatles style haircut and the so-called “yeah, yeah, yeah” music. Many major newspapers in the world, from The Daily Mirror, The New York Times, AP, etc wrote an article describing the expansion of The Beatles with the title "Yeah yeah yeah", even calling “She Loves You” the original of the song “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah"! This phrase then is not only about The Beatles but also about popular music in general.
