Diving paradise

The Yucatan Peninsula's east coast is where you should go diving. Here, among the vibrant coral reefs, are some excellent diving locations where you may see a variety of species, including enormous hawksbill turtles and nurse sharks. The islands of Cozumel and Mahahual are two of the best locations for scuba diving. A variety of diving schools in Cozumel, which is close to the island and only a short ferry journey from Playa del Carmen, will take you out on their magnificent reefs. It's the ideal location for pleasure dives or your PADI course.

Although Mahahual is a little beach village close to the Belizean border, it is a popular diving location. Although the reef is spectacular and only ten minutes from the coast, Banco Chinchorro is what attracts divers the most. This pristine reef atoll is one of the best places in the Caribbean for scuba diving and is rich in marine life. Divers can also take advantage of Mexico's exceptional potential to explore the subaquatic cenotes. This diving experience is unique because of the incredible rock formations and cave-like structures.

Even if diving isn't your thing, you can still explore Mexico's underwater world by going on a snorkeling excursion. There are several of these available in Yucatan, but snorkeling with whale sharks is one of the greatest. If you're in Mexico between May and September, take advantage of the chance to swim with the biggest fish on earth. These magnificent marine creatures come to Mexico's coasts to breed.
