Dolly Rebecca Parton (born January 19, 1946) is a country music singer-songwriter, actor, philanthropist, and businesswoman from the United States. After finding success as a songwriter for others, Parton released her first album, Hello, I'm Dolly, in 1967, which went on to become a hit for the rest of the 1960s, until her sales and chart peak in the 1970s and 1980s. Parton's records did not sell as well in the 1990s, but she regained financial success in the new millennium and has issued albums on a variety of indie labels since 2000, including her own Dolly Records label. She has sold over 100 million records all around the world.
She's won 11 Grammy Awards and received 50 nominations, including the Lifetime Achievement Award; 10 Country Music Association Awards, including Entertainer of the Year; and five Academy of Country Music Awards and many others.
Dolly Parton co-owns The Dollywood Company, which oversees a number of entertainment venues, including the Dollywood theme park, the Splash Country water park, and a number of dinner theatre locations, including The Dolly Parton Stampede and Pirates Voyage, in addition to her work in the music industry. She has established a variety of charity and philanthropic organizations, the most notable of which is the Dollywood Foundation, which oversees a number of programs aimed at improving education and alleviating poverty in East Tennessee, where she grew up.
