Domwe Island

Domwe Island, ranking the second place on the list of the most beautiful islands in Malawi, provides tourists with a one-of-a-kind blend of island and African bush settings. Domwe is the biggest island in Lake Malawi, with an 11-kilometer radius and a peak 400 meters above sea level. It is isolated from the mainland by the small Ilala Gap, which has been dry on multiple periods owing to changes in lake level over millennia. As a result, unlike all other Lake Malawi islands, Domwe Island is densely populated with animals that have migrated to the island during the dry season.

Domwe Island Adventure Camp is simple but unique. It is located on the west side of the island, behind a little beach. The camp is self-catered, with visitors using the kitchen facilities to prepare their own meals. The kitchen is staffed by two full-time employees and is well equipped with refrigerators, pots & pans, crockery, and cutlery. There are three fully-furnished safari tents and two tent sites, as well as a dining area with bar and a water sport gazebo.

The island is located within an exclusive concession area, which is part of the Lake Malawi National Park, the world's first freshwater marine reserve. With crystal clear waters and a plethora of cichlid fish species, the National Park is often regarded as having the greatest freshwater SCUBA diving in the world.

Domwe Island is suitable for those who enjoy being active and enjoying nature. The island's size and height allow for vast and strenuous nature paths, and kayaking along its long shoreline will please those who enjoy discovery. Guests may unwind in calm settings with shaded and secluded hammocks and glistening waves as the sun sets behind the distant mountains that make up the lake's far side.
