Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton engagement ring

Although Elizabeth Taylor was no stranger to an engagement ring or two, her iconic Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton engagement ring comes in second. The Hollywood actress was married ten times in all, with eight marriages and seven divorces. Taylor was even widowed once, so she wasn't exactly blessed with love.

Her engagement to Welsh actor Richard Burton resulted in the world's most expensive ring. The Elizabeth Taylor Krupp diamond is a 33.19-carat Asscher-cut gem with a desirable D color and VS1 clarity. Burton paid $307,000 (about £1.7 million in today's money) for the diamond at an auction. In 1968, shortly after presenting it to Taylor, it was turned into a ring.

It was dubbed the Elizabeth Taylor diamond for a long time and was considered to be the iconic actress' favorite jewel. During her estate's auction after her death in 2011, the stone sold for an incredible $8.8 million (£6.62 million). The Krupp diamond is currently worth $9.25 million (about £6.66 million) after accounting for inflation.

Did you know? Richard Burton never gave Taylor an official engagement ring during their two marriages. He gave Elizabeth an emerald Bulgari brooch when he proposed, which she pinned to her wedding gown. They married in 1964, and four years later, she was presented with the Krupp diamond. Taylor's engagement ring has long been known as such.

Estimated Cost: $9.25 million
