English and Academic Preparation - Pre-Collegiate by Rice University
Students with a (minimum) high-intermediate level of English should take the English and Academic Preparation - Pre-Collegiate non-credit course. This certificate program is designed to assist domestic and international students in developing the academic skills required for success in undergraduate studies at an American university while also improving their English skills.
Prospective candidates should have earned or be nearing completion of a high school diploma in their home country and wish to study for a bachelor's degree in the United States. The course will take roughly four weeks to complete. Students should plan on working with the materials and homework for roughly 5-7 hours per week. The course is divided into four sections:
• Listening, Speaking, and Critical Thinking
• Writer’s Workshop
• Reading and Note-taking
• Capstone Project
Video courses, opportunities to practice English and academic abilities, interactive discussion boards with peers, and graded exercises are all included in each module. All courses are asynchronous, which means that you can finish the lectures and activities at any time of day or night as long as you complete all course assignments by the last day of class.
