Eze
Eze is one of the most lovely day trips from Monaco and is only eight kilometers away. This village is beloved by visitors for its medieval charm and breathtaking coastline vistas. This charming small village sits atop a hill overlooking the Cap-Ferrat peninsula, high above the Mediterranean Sea.
One can find a 12th-century church, attractive art galleries, elegant shops, and nice cafés nestled away in courtyards by taking a stroll around the town's twisting cobblestone alleyways. The Exotic Garden, with its luxuriant flora and breathtaking views of the coastline, is a must-visit location in Eze.
The Parfumerie Fragonard (perfume factory and boutique), which is situated at the town's base, is another popular tourist destination. The beginning of a hiking track that descends to the beach is close by. Driving to Eze from Monaco takes about 20 minutes and is the most direct route.
Around Monaco, there are numerous additional medieval "villages perchés" (perched villages) scattered throughout the hilltops. Located between a ridge of the Tête de Chien and the Mont de la Bataille peaks, the old town of La Turbie is roughly a 15-minute drive from Monaco. A trip to La Turbie is worthwhile to eat at the two-star gastronomic establishment L'Hostellerie Jérôme.
The community of Peille, which is characteristically Provençal and situated on a hilltop high above the River Peillon, is located farther north of La Turbie (15 kilometers from Eze and less than a 30-minute drive). The 12th-century Romanesque church and the remains of a 13th-century fortress are two of Peille's tourist attractions.
The Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs (also known as the Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs), a notable 15th-century church with Renaissance frescoes by Giovanni Canavesio, is located in Peillon, a picturesque village, 12 kilometers southwest of Peille.
