The company was founded in 2005 by Nev Hyman and Bert Burger, with a focus on utilizing advanced materials and techniques to create high-performance surfboards.

FireWire Surfboards is recognized for its use of TimberTek technology, which incorporates sustainably sourced wood veneer into the construction of the boards. A minimal density is produced by this technology using just 1 pound of EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) foam. Fiberglass and epoxy resin are used to make the surfboard shells for FireWire.

The FST-Springer model and the Rapid Fire are two of their different surfboard designs. The Springer is their adaptation, which increases the surfboard's stiffness by adding a balsa stringer in the middle. A pound more of EPS foam is used in the Rapid Fire. Due to the higher density and less air in its core, this eliminates the need for an air valve.
