Foundations of Teaching and Learning

This course was designed by a teacher for anyone who wants to improve their understanding of how you learn. This course serves two purposes: first, it is intended for instructors; and second, it is intended for parents and students. First and foremost, instructors.

It is their endeavor to provide a meaningful and relevant professional development opportunity for teachers on themes central to learning. Many of these concepts and ideas are not new, but they do represent a core part of how you learn, and they receive little, if any, attention in their professional development experience. In this course, they will share principles that they have directly acquired from learning research but that have also been demonstrated to function in the classroom.

Furthermore, they have personally incorporated these principles into their teaching, in accordance with the research and suggestions, and found that they benefited both their teaching and the students' learning. To be clear, these themes work not because of their own experience but because they are founded on what you know about how learning works in the brain, and they have been rigorously tested both inside and outside the classroom.

Their second goal is to provide a resource for parents and students to utilize to help guide their understanding of learning. Because learning is not limited to schools and classrooms, neither should information about learning be. But all too frequently, this is the case. Aside from that, schools (in general) do a poor job of collaborating with parents and kids to explain what learning is and how it works. They aim to provide a space where some basic concepts and guiding ideas may assist anyone to learn more about learning. This is one of the best online teaching courses.
