Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
"Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood" is a popular anime series based on the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa. It is actually a reimagining of the original "Fullmetal Alchemist" anime, which was produced before the manga had concluded. "Brotherhood" follows the source material more faithfully and is often considered one of the greatest anime series of all time.
The series primarily follows two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who become skilled alchemists at a young age. The story is set in a fictional world where alchemy is a highly developed science and art. Tragedy strikes when they attempt a forbidden alchemical ritual known as human transmutation to resurrect their deceased mother. This dark ritual goes terribly wrong: Edward loses his left leg, and Alphonse loses his entire body. In a desperate attempt to save his brother's soul, Edward sacrifices his right arm to bind Alphonse's soul to a suit of armor.
Determined to restore their bodies, the brothers embark on a quest to find the Philosopher's Stone, a legendary alchemical artifact said to amplify an alchemist's power and bypass the fundamental law of equivalent exchange. Along the way, they uncover a deep and sinister conspiracy that involves government corruption, war, and dark secrets about the Philosopher's Stone. Their journey takes them into the heart of the military, where they become State Alchemists in the hopes of accessing classified information about the stone.
As they delve deeper into the mysteries surrounding alchemy, the Philosopher's Stone, and their own past, Edward and Alphonse encounter a wide array of characters, both allies and adversaries, who play crucial roles in the unfolding story.
