An international American business called General Mills Inc. creates and sells branded meals to consumers in retail stores. It is the US's third-largest producer of consumer goods connected to food. Its headquarters are in Golden Valley, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. The business was founded in 1928 by Illinois congressman Robert Smith under the name Minneapolis Milling Company. Since 2004, General Mills has produced additional products for consumers that are interested in their health. The company decided to switch to whole grains for all of its breakfast cereals. Additionally, it started producing cereals for its younger clients with less sugar. According to General Mills, all cereals marketed to children now contain 11 grams of sugar per serving. The third-biggest producer of consumer food products in the nation in 2015, General Mills was number 181 in 2012 on the Fortune 500 list of America's largest companies.
