Genius Sports started as a betting data expert in London in 2001 and have since evolved to become one of the world's leading sports technology companies. It currently has over 1,800 employees spread across five continents, this includes its London HQ, sports data 'nerve center' in Sofia, its tech and support hubs in Vilnius, Medellin and Tallinn, and its growing product and commercial teams across the U.S.

Sports leagues and federations can use Genius Sports software. This technology, which is utilized by sports leagues all over the world, allows sports to capture, manage, and distribute data and statistics. Sports, for their part, grant Genius Sports the rights to commercialize their data and video content with sportsbooks, casinos and media companies. About 300 sportsbook companies, including FanDuel, Skybet, and Bet365, are among Genius Sports' betting partners. Genius Sports provides live data, odds, and streams from over 240,000 live sports events every year to sportsbooks.

In May 2019, Genius Sports announced a partnership with the NASCAR stock-car racing association to become the exclusive provider of NASCAR data to licensed sportsbooks worldwide. Genius Sports announced a partnership with the National Football League in April 2021 to serve as their exclusive distributor of live NFL data and analytics to bookmakers and media companies. Genius Sports replaced the NFL's former partner Sportradar in this multi-year partnership, which also includes the rights to distribute NFL streams and represent its sports betting advertising inventory.
