German International School Abu Dhabi
The German International School Abu Dhabi (GISAD) is a German international school situated in central Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It is certified by the Kultusministerkonferenz (KMK), which is the assembly of ministers of education of the German states. GISAD offers a comprehensive educational journey encompassing Kindergarten, Grundschule (primary school), Sekundarstufe I (lower secondary level), and Sekundarstufe II (upper secondary level).
At GISAD, language development holds great significance, beginning as early as kindergarten. The school prioritizes German language fluency and offers an "Arabic for native speakers" program from kindergarten onwards. Plus, for German-speaking children, tailored language support and English lessons begin at an early stage.
Starting from first grade, the instruction language is primarily German; students transitioning to GISAD's primary school must possess proficient German language skills. Still, the school does extend additional linguistic support through the Linguistic Integration Program (LIP) to students with different first languages during and after lessons. Thanks to the integration of LIP, students are allowed to pursue a German graduate diploma or the "German Language Diploma" (DSD).
Earning the DSD at level B1 enables students to attend a preparatory course at a German university. Notably, GISAD stands as the first and only German school in the region to offer the DSD.
