Ghent is a city in Belgium known for its medieval architecture, canals and vibrant nightlife. The most surprising thing about Ghent is that it is not so popular with tourists. It is a medieval heart filled with buildings that have been repurposed into restaurants, bars and shops. The winding roads, canal banks and relaxed pace of life. Ghent is a city for its inhabitants - the food and drink is well suited to the local tastes. Many young people choose to stay here, keeping the atmosphere of the city always developing and dynamic, but also full of romance.
The scene hasn't changed much over the years. Diversely patterned houses, cobbled harbors and church spires still dominate. Graslei is the perfect starting point for canal walks.; On sunny days, the wharf is crowded with students and families swinging their feet on the water. The stone St Michael's Bridge, at the southern end of Graslei, is a good spot to explore all the romantic sights. You can choose a tower or a church with a high roof so that you can fully admire the red-tiled roofs spreading below of the city.
Spend some time wandering through Ghent's picturesque narrow streets. Worthwhile diversions include Werregarenstraat, an alleyway popular with street artists, now better known as Graffiti Street, and Antiek-Depot, a large, cluttered space where there are lots of antique sellers, with a nice bar in the center.
