Goblin (2016)

Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (Goblin) is a South Korean television series starring Gong Yoo, Kim Go-eun, Lee Dong-wook, Yoo In-na, and Yook Sung-jae as the title character. From December 2, 2016, through January 21, 2017, it aired on the cable network tvN. Kim Eun-sook, a well-known drama writer, wrote it.

Kim Shin (Gong Yoo), a distinguished Goryeo Dynasty military general, is accused as a traitor and executed by a young monarch. Years after his death, the Almighty curses him to remain immortal forever, suffering the agony of seeing his loved ones perish as retribution for the troops he sacrificed to preserve his nation. He becomes an eternal goblin, using his skills to aid others and becoming a nice man despite his tragic history. The only way to stop his torturous eternity is with the assistance of the Goblin's wife in drawing out the blade.

Ji Eun-tak (Kim Go-eun) is a perky high school girl who, despite her unfortunate background, stays happy and positive. By happenstance, she summons the Goblin, and their lives become intertwined. Yoo Deok-hwa (Yook Sung-jae), the Goblin's nephew, leases the Goblin's house to a Grim Reaper (Lee Dong-wook), and the two wind up living under the same roof. Ji Eun-tak begins working part-time at a chicken business managed by a charming young woman named Sunny (Yoo In-na). A deeper tale emerges as the lives of Kim Shin, Grim Reaper, Ji Eun-tak, and Sunny intertwine, since they are not simply strangers who met by accident, but people with deep-rooted relationships.
