Graded - The American School of São Paulo
Graded - The American School of São Paulo has been a key player in the city's educational scene since it opened on October 17, 1920. Initially situated on Avenida São João, the school moved to its present location on Avenida Giovanni Gronchi in 1961, facing Paraisópolis in Morumbi.
Catering to students from pre-primary to high school, Graded follows an American-style teaching approach. The Lower School includes the Montessori P pre-primary program for children aged three to Kindergarten. High school students at Graded can pursue an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, a Brazilian diploma, and the mandatory SACS-accredited American diploma. The curriculum also offers two Advanced Placement courses: AP Calculus AB and BC.
While most classes are conducted in English, the school provides options in Portuguese, French, and Spanish. The high school boasts extensive facilities, including 90 classrooms, eight computer labs, an auditorium, an infirmary, soccer fields, covered play areas, gyms, and science labs. The school libraries house over 50,000 volumes, and all graduates receive an American high school diploma.
Initiated in 2010, the Graded Campus Project represents the school's forward-thinking vision. Phase I, completed in February 2014, revamped the Lower School Playgrounds and Gymnasiums. Subsequently, Phase II, unveiled in March 2017, introduced a new Main Entrance, Parking Garage, Student Center, Large Field, Small Field, Track, Beach Volleyball Court, Wellness Gymnasium, and Maintenance Building.
With a tradition where over 95% of graduates pursue a 4-year degree within a year of graduation, Graded maintains high academic standards. Accredited by the Brazilian Ministry of Education and authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), Graded is a member of various educational associations, including the American International Schools in the Americas (AMISA), the US National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), the Council of International Schools (CIS), and the American Montessori Society. Currently undergoing an ambitious campus project set for completion in 2020 to commemorate its centenary, Graded continues to shape the future of education in São Paulo.
