Grand Popo Beach, Grand Popo

Grand Popo Beach is located on Grand Popo's Route Pavee. It's a long beach with yellow sand and sky blue water. Straw huts with wooden chairs beautify the entire shore, in addition to the numerous palm trees that can be found across the beach.

The name "Grand-Popo" is a European exonym for "Hulagan," a historic town and kingdom (Great Hula). The Hula/Xwla/Phla people who once ruled the Togo-Benin coast considered Great Hula to be their ancient town of common origin.

Grand Popo is a must-see tourist destination in Benin, located near the border with Togo and famed for its hotels and inns by the sea. Depending on the season, you can visit sea turtle hatcheries on Grand Popo Beach and attend the sea turtle festival on January 8, or you can attend the voodoo festival on January 10 or the community identity festival on Pentecost.
