Harbour International School
Harbor International School, a vibrant primary school located in the heart of Rotterdam, just a short walk from Central Station. Founded in 1987 as Blijberg International, they changed their name to Harbor International in September 2019 while continuing to maintain their commitment to providing quality education at an affordable price for mobile families. They take pride in their diverse and inclusive community, representing over 57 different nationalities.
With a current population of 285 children, the school prioritizes individualized education and maintain small class sizes, with an average of 18 students per class, rarely exceeding 21. They use the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), supplemented by elements of the British curriculum, to provide a well-rounded educational experience. Students, taught in English by experienced educators, benefit from a broad and balanced curriculum that aims to nurture knowledge and skills.
Harbor International School understands the importance of linguistic diversity and that is why they welcome children who do not speak English, providing support through their English as an Additional Language (EAL) program. However, the school also acknowledges certain limitations in its own context. A three-floor building without an elevator can be difficult for children with severe physical challenges. Currently, the school cannot serve children with complex special educational needs or who may pose a threat to the general learning environment.
Harbor's vision is to educate students to become caring, joyful and confident individuals, capable of successfully adapting to an ever-changing world. To enhance community spirit, they have a Parent Support Group (PSG) that collaborates on special events and activities throughout the year. In addition, the school offers a variety of classes and activities for parents to participate in, from language classes to wellness classes, providing a comprehensive approach to family engagement.
