The British School of Amsterdam
The British School of Amsterdam was founded in 1978 by three progressive-minded families who temporarily moved to the Netherlands. This school came from a vision of ensuring that their children would not fall behind the British school system while living abroad. Over the years, the school has developed into a dynamic educational institution, currently educating more than 1,100 students on the grounds of a modern facility on Havenstraat.
The school especially focuses on developing individuals with independent thinking, resilience, adaptability and good manners. With small class sizes and specialist teachers, each student receives individual attention, giving them a deeper understanding of subjects and flexibility to move beyond the National Curriculum. They give extracurricular activities a lot of weight, giving pupils lots of chances to explore and grow their interests outside of the conventional classroom.
The British School of Amsterdam recognizes the importance of parental involvement and encourages all parents to be active members of the Parents' Organisation (PO). The PO serves as a platform for parents to actively participate in school activities, share common interests, and contribute to the school community. The school functions as a Stichting (Foundation), with the Principal leading the Management Board, which is in charge of day-to-day operations, and a specialised Supervisory Board handling strategic direction.
Since it is a nonprofit organization, neither the Dutch nor the British governments provide support to The British School of Amsterdam. This makes sure the school's primary goals are to educate children to the highest standards and create a supportive environment that will better equip them for life's difficulties. Efficient study and a fulfilling life smoothly merge here, offering the best of both worlds.
