Health and Safety
In the Solomon Islands, hospitals and pharmacies are limited to populated areas and religious missions. The National Referral Hospital, the country's main hospital, is located in Honiara and is the only hospital on Guadalcanal. Because it only has 400 beds, serious cases are frequently medically evacuated to Australia. Every province in the country has a hospital, but they are all small and understaffed. Many provincial hospitals only have one or two doctors, and some do not have any surgeons. Outlying clinics staffed by nurses are supported by the hospitals.
If you are planning a dive trip or traveling to the Solomon Islands, it is a good idea to invest in travel insurance because you never know what could happen or when you might need it because accidents happen all the time.
