The Hewlett-Packard Company, abbreviated HP, was an American global information technology corporation headquartered in Palo Alto, California. HP created and sold a wide range of hardware, software, and related services to consumers, small and medium-sized companies (SMBs), and major corporations, including clients in the government, health, and education sectors. Bill Hewlett and David Packard launched the firm in a one-car garage in Palo Alto in 1939, producing electronic test and measurement equipment at first.The HP Garage at 367 Addison Avenue has been listed as a California Historical Landmark, and a plaque proclaims it to be the "Birthplace of "Silicon Valley."
HP handed off its electrical and bio-analytical test and measurement devices business to Agilent Technologies in 1999, concentrating on subsequent goods such as PCs and printers. In 2002, it merged with Compaq, then in 2008, it bought Electronic Data Systems, resulting in combined revenues of $118.4 billion and a Fortune 500 position of 9 in 2009. HP announced its acquisition of 3Com in November 2009, and the deal was completed on April 12, 2010. HP announced the purchase of Palm, Inc. for $1.2 billion on April 28, 2010. HP won the bidding war for 3PAR on September 2, 2010, with a $33 per share ($2.07 billion) offer, which Dell rejected to match.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise, the company's enterprise products and services division, was spun off on November 1, 2015. The personal computer and printer operations were kept by HP, which was renamed HP Inc.
