Hsi Fang Temple
Hsi Fang Temple leads the list of best Buddhist temples in San Diego. The building of Hsi Fang Temple started in December 1987 and finished in June 1989. The temple was made for people who wanted to learn about Buddhism and Chinese culture and to be a connection for cultural exchange between the East and West.
Hsi Fang Temple has two three-story buildings on half an acre of land. One building is the Main Shrine and dining area; the other has the bookstore, classrooms, and guest rooms. The goal of the temple is to share Buddhist teachings through cultural activities, help people learn through education, do good things for society through charity, and help people have better thoughts through practicing Buddhism.
Regular classes and talks about Buddhism and special topics happen in Mandarin and English. The temple also does activities like summer camps and community projects annually. They publish newsletters and other writings about Buddhism and have events about Buddhist studies.
On Sundays, Hsi Fang Temple has Dharma services, where they do things like the Diamond Repentance Service, chant the Amitabha Sutra, Universal Gate Sutra, Eight-eight Buddhas' Great Repentance, and have a ceremony for Buddha's Birthday. They also do meditation. Besides that, they have a program to share Buddhism with people in prison, and they always try to help people who need assistance.
