Vista Buddhist Temple
Vista Buddhist Temple (VBT) is the central place for Buddhism in North County San Diego. VBT follows Shin Buddhism, also known as Jodo Shinshu or Pureland Buddhism, which is part of the Mahayana tradition. It became an official temple of the Buddhist Churches of America in 1981. The community's roots go back to Japanese immigrants gathering in the 1930s. The temple officially opened in 1987, and its active community still comes together to practice.
Vista Buddhist Temple is a Shin Buddhist, family-friendly temple that isn't for monks. Whether you're already part of the temple, a friend interested in Buddhism, or just passing through, take a moment to see what they offer. The temple has reopened, and you're invited to join in-person services on most Sundays at 10 am. You can also attend online via Zoom.
Vista Buddhist Temple welcomes everyone to join its services, activities, and festivals. In April, they have a Hanamatsuri festival, and in July, there's an Obon festival. They also host events like weddings and funerals. If you want to become a member, VBT has different annual membership levels for individuals, families, and seniors.
Their Dharma School is for K-12 students from the temple and visitors. It meets twice a month on Sundays at 11 am after the service. Teachers engage students with discussions, activities, and crafts.
Meditation Services happen every Wednesday at 7:00 pm over Zoom. They're open to the public and temple members. The Wednesday Group is for VBT’s senior members. They regularly meet to do crafts, work on temple projects, and care for the temple grounds.
