Hua Zang Si
Hua Zang Si found near the Mission Street BART station in San Francisco, kicked off its journey in December 2004. One thing that makes Hua Zang Si unique is its commitment to preserving Buddhist teachings while welcoming diversity.
This temple isn't just about one type of Buddhism—it's a big mix of different Buddhist teachings. At Hua Zang Si, they teach all kinds of things, like chanting, meditation, visualizations, and different methods from various Buddhist schools. It's like a buffet of Buddhist practices, and everyone's welcome to learn!
You'll find beautiful halls dedicated to Buddha statues, like Shakyamuni Buddha and Amitabha Buddha. They have these grand statues that make you feel peaceful just by looking at them. Plus, they have these cool couplets written by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III Wan Ko Yeshe Norbu hanging around, sharing deep truths about life and the mind.
They have classes and lectures conducted primarily in Chinese, with some English translations available. It's a fantastic space where anyone new to Buddhism or a seasoned practitioner can learn and grow.
And guess what? Hua Zang Si was awarded in 2005 for being the "Best Buddhist Temple located in a former Lutheran Church." It's like they took a former church, sprinkled it with Buddhist vibes, and made it a spiritual hotspot in San Francisco.
