Idjwi Island
Idjwi is an inland island in Lake Kivu, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which forms part of South Kivu Province at 70 km in length and with an area of 340 km2. Idjwi is a wild and natural tourist destination, the main tourist activities of Idjwi Island are visiting the pineapple plantation of locals pineapple, village walking, interacting with locals about their day to life, bird watching, visiting the local fishermen, and swimming in Lake Kivu.
At Idjwi, the boat rides are organized regularly, taking the visitor around the small islets surrounding the island, where visitors can visit nearby fishing villages. Alternatively, you can pay the fisherman an extra tip if you want to go through the virgin rainforest where birds and monkeys live in the wild.
