Indigenous culture

All significant Pacific Islands of Micronesia cultures place a strong emphasis on the importance of family, religion, sharing, and hospitality. For the majority of islanders, fishing, farming, and growing tree crops remain their main sources of income. Additionally, each island has its own complex matrilineal clan networks and networks of extended families. In addition to English, eight additional languages are also spoken on the islands.

During the 19th century, the region was divided between the colonial powers, but the art continued to thrive.Traditional Micronesian art is streamlined and functionally simple in terms of style. In addition, music and oral storytelling play significant roles in all the cultures of the Pacific Islands of Micronesia. Currently, much more contemporary pop music with significant reggae, country, and Europop influences is present alongside the traditional Micronesian tales and songs that have been passed down through the years. The Lapita culture served as the foundation for Micronesia's creative legacy. The megalithic floating metropolis of Nan Madol is one of the most notable creations of the area.
