International Community School
The International Community School (ICS) in Amman, Jordan, has been around since 1953, making it a well-established institution with an interesting history. It started as a primary school for the children of British Military members stationed at Marka airport. Later, as the expatriate community in Amman grew, ICS moved to Wasfi Al Tal Street, Khalda, and expanded to include a secondary school in 1999. In 2009, ICS found a new home in Um Al Basatin, Naur Area, where purpose-built facilities provide an ideal learning environment.
ICS caters to a diverse range of students, welcoming those aged three to 18. The school follows the National Curriculum for England and Wales, guiding students through IGCSEs and GCSEs in Years 10 and 11, followed by AS- and A-levels in Year 13. Additionally, ICS offers BTEC levels 2 and 3, with exams administered by UK boards at the end of each school year. Notably, ICS takes pride in its commitment to supporting students with varying learning needs, from high achievers to those with mild-to-moderate learning challenges.
One of the distinctive features of ICS is its language instruction program. Starting from year one, students get to choose between English, Arabic, or French, emphasizing the school's dedication to creating a diverse and inclusive learning environment that caters to individual preferences.
Following a traditional English-style school year, running from September to July, ICS has a structured academic calendar consisting of two terms and half-terms. The school observes public holidays, the Eastern Orthodox Easter, holidays based on the Jordanian Islamic calendar, and a winter break that coincides with the schedule of schools that follow the Western calendar.
