In 1989, a group of families from non-governmental organizations founded the International School of Phnom Penh (ISPP). Initially, six students from three to seven years old gathered part-time in one house, taught by a dedicated parent. By 1990, ISPP moved to a rented villa, officially transitioning to a regular day school model with a curriculum from Kindergarten to Grade 4. The school's charter was approved, solidifying its position as a Non-profit, non-sectarian, parent-owned educational institution.

The mid-90s saw the expansion of ISPP to a faculty of 14 and 230 students. Notable achievements include innovative approaches to supporting English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners and the establishment of a high school Biology lab. In 1996, a formal learning support program and technology-integrated strategic plan were introduced, reflecting ISPP's commitment to comprehensive education.

In 1998, ISPP rejected an offer to take over the International School of Cambodia (ISC), maintaining its independent trajectory. The following year, the school achieved a major milestone when it received full six-year accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), becoming the only internationally accredited school in Cambodia at that time. .

The late 90s and early 2000s saw ISPP's integration into the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework, gaining accreditation as an IB Diploma school in 1999, and then gaining accreditation for its Middle Years Programme. (MYP) in 2001. Council of International Schools (CIS) and WASC accreditation in 2004-05 reinforced ISPP's commitment to quality education.

By 2014, the Middle School moved to a new purpose-built campus south of the city center, with the Primary School joining in 2015. Today, ISPP is one of the best IB schools in Phnom Penh, providing comprehensive education in Primary, Secondary and Diploma Programmes. Accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, ISPP remains dedicated to providing a rich learning environment and support services, demonstrating a commitment to educational excellence in the region.
