Island of Gorée
Island of Gorée ranks number 1 on our list of the most beautiful islands in Senegal you must pay a visit to. Gorée is an island off the coast of Senegal, opposite Dakar. Gorée Island, French Île de Gorée, a tiny island just south of the Cape Verde Peninsula in Senegal that was the site of one of the oldest European colonies in Western Africa and operated as a slave and other trade station for many years. Gorée Island was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1978, and some historic structures were restored in the 1980s and 1990s.
The atmosphere on the island is significantly different from that of Dakar. Although memory and history are important components of that environment, so is the casual lifestyle of the locals along the beach. Every visitor will be moved by the legendary door of no return. Even though current scientific study appears to show that the numbers of people leaving this building were not quite as high: Who cares if it wasn't this door, but one of several down the coast: History's heinous acts are a scandal, and this is widely recalled at the museum.
