King Nebuchadnezzar II
King Nebuchadnezzar II became ruler of the Babylonian Empire, succeeding his late father, who was both a king and a warrior. This helped him make the Babylonian Empire the greatest empire that ever existed. He defeated the Assyrians with Nineveh and Syria fell to the Babylonians. He expanded his empire while building the city of Babylon into a wonder of the ancient world. As a young military commander, Nebuchadnezzar defeated Egyptian forces at Carchemish, giving his father control over Syria. His first ambition when he ascended to the throne was to expand his empire, taking Jerusalem and Judah, and attacking Egypt. His second ambition was to rebuild the city of Babylon, making it one of the wonders of the ancient world. He deserves to be one of the most awesome monarchs every historian should know.
King Nebuchadnezzar II didn't stop there with his takeover of the Kingdom of Judah. Destroy the city of Jerusalem and bring the Jewish people back to Babylon. He also defeated the Egyptian forces allied with the king of the Assyrian empire. The Egyptians were trying to support the Assyrians against the Babylonians but to no avail when the empire fell to King Nebuchadnezzar II. The reign of King Nebuchadnezzar II is recorded both in Biblical texts and in historical records highlighting the empire's greatness and size. The Babylonian Empire in Iraq today is a world heritage site that remains impressive in the 21st century.
