The Kohler Company, which was founded in 1873, is one of America's largest family enterprises. Kohler China Ltd., the company's Asia-Pacific headquarters, was established in Shanghai in 2002. Kohler (China) offers a diverse assortment of designer bathroom and kitchen goods, including high-end toilets, showers, faucets, baths, and enclosures, among other things. Kohler Co., the world's largest bath and kitchen appliance manufacturer, is constructing its fifth factory in China to better service the local market.

As early as the 1930s, Kohler products had a deep relationship with China. Kohler sanitary ware was utilized in many renowned Shanghai structures, including the Jinjiang Hotel and the Daguangming Cinema.
