Kutub al-Sittah
The Kutub al-Sittah (Arabic: الكتب الستة, meaning "The Six Books") are the six major Sunni hadith collections. They are considered to be the most authentic and authoritative sources of Islamic law and guidance after the Quran. These collections were compiled by six prominent scholars who lived between the 2nd and 3rd centuries AH (7th to 9th centuries CE).
The six collections are: Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abu Dawood, Sunan an-Nasa'i, Sunan at-Tirmidhi, and Sunan Ibn Majah. The first talk about Sahih al-Bukhari, which was compiled by Imam Bukhari and considered the most authentic collection of Hadith. It covers a wide range of topics, including prayer, ethics, and character. The next is text compiled by Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj (815-875 CE), Sahih Muslim is the second most authentic collection of hadith. It contains over 9,200 hadith, also arranged by topic.
The Sunan Abu Dawood, compiled by Imam Abu Dawood, carefully organizes Hadith based on legal rulings, offering full guidance across diverse aspects of life. Imam an-Nasa'i's compilation, the Sunan an-Nasa'i, delves into Hadith concerning ethics, and virtues, providing valuable insights into moral conduct. Similarly, the Sunan at-Tirmidhi, compiled by Imam at-Tirmidhi, highlight ethical behavior, manners, enriching understanding of righteous conduct.
Lastly, the Sunan Ibn Majah spans a wide array of Hadith topics, catering to a broad spectrum of spiritual and moral inquiries within Islamic teachings.
