Laguna Ticamaya
Amid rocky areas and mountain trails, visitors will find Laguna Ticamaya, one of the most beautiful lakes in Honduras, also known as a natural swimming pool with three islands in the center; considered a growing tourist center, and a site of ecological investigation. Laguna Ticamaya is a relaxing place, a wildlife refuge of 317 hectares, home to various species of flora and fauna, a real delight for those who want to live an adventure in harmony with nature. The actual site of the Laguna Ticamaya project is located in the middle eastern part of the Sula Valley, department of Cortés, Choloma City, in a mountainous area, with a maximum elevation of 96 meters above sea level. The water mirror has an extension of about 294 hectares and a height of 21 meters above sea level.
One of the quirks of the Laguna Ticamaya is that its geology is merely rocky and the Ticamaya water mirror is made up of Quaternary alluvium. Its climate depends largely on Mount Merendón, semi-rainy and tropical. Its comfortable handcrafted cabins and beautiful kiosks invite you to spend a wonderful day with your family or friends. The Choloma Environmental Unit has allocated resources to maintain and keep it clean. Several organizations work on the study of species that live in the lagoon.
