Lake Assal

Lake Assal is a saline lake in the Afar Triangle that is 155 meters below sea level, making it Africa's lowest point on land and the world's third-lowest point after the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea. Lake Assal is a crater lake in Djibouti's middle west. It is 120 kilometers west of Djibouti City, near the western end of the Gulf of Tadjoura in the Tadjoura Region, bordering the Dikhil Region, at the top of the Great Rift Valley. With 34.8 percent average salt content (up to 40 percent at 20 m (66 ft) depth), Lake Assal is the world's most saline body of water after Don Juan Pond, surpassing the Dead Sea's 33.7 percent level.
