Lamma Island
Lamma is the third largest remote island in Hong Kong with an area of 13.47 square kilometers. It is also known as Y Island due to its island shape and location to the south of Hong Kong. Lamma has a population of no more than 10,000. The majority of them are expats, who value the peace and quiet of the rural lifestyle. This island is ranked as one of the most beautiful islands of Hong Kong. This is an ideal place for a great escape from the hectic city life.
By ferry, travel time between Central Pier 4 and Lamma is only 30 minutes. Lamma is a resort that is desired by Hong Kong people during the weekend. In recent years, more and more people love Lamma and buy houses there. A car-free island separates noise and emissions from vehicles. Most of the buildings in Lamma are low-rise housing.
Lamma is a less polluted island with many green hills, beautiful bays and fresh seafood. Mr. Chow Yun-Fat, a Hong Kong actor best known in Asia, was born in Lamma Island. The islanders are proud of him. A comfortable and unforgettable trail connects the main villages between Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan.
Visitors can immerse themselves in the beautiful scenery along the way. Other experiments Lamma developed involved access to Mount Stenhouse in the southern part of the island. For visitors who enjoy abundant sunshine, they will gather at Hung Shing Yeh Beach and Lo So Shing Beach. However, due to the rugged terrain, Lamma has a very small arable land.
Bare and rocky hilltops dominate the low grassy slopes of the island.
