Landsbankinn hf.
Landsbankinn, formerly NBI hf., is an Icelandic bank based in Reykjavik. The Icelandic government founded it in 2008 to take over the domestic operations of its predecessor Landsbanki, which had failed during the 2008-2011 Icelandic financial crisis. It is the largest bank in Iceland, and its precursor dates back to 1885. The bank had 35 branches in Iceland by 2022. The bank has around 39% of the retail market and approximately 34% of the business banking industry (2022).
Landsbankinn offers a full variety of financial services and is the market leader in Iceland's financial services sector, with the most branches and outlets distributed around the country. Landsbankinn provides retail and corporate banking, capital markets services, asset management, and wealth management to private banking clients. Landsbankinn has dealt with the significant fallout from the economic crisis, working to reestablish trust both in Iceland and internationally. Regulations and oversight of financial institutions have evolved significantly in order to maintain long-term effectiveness.
Landsbankinn's strategy is shaped by and adapts to societal changes. To provide its customers with exceptional services that meet modern needs, the bank must constantly evolve. Its goal is to simplify consumers' lives by making finances more approachable while also increasing advising services. The bank will continue to give very exceptional service to consumers, but in a completely new way.
