Learn Simulation of Traffic & Pedestrian on VISSIM & VISWALK
Growing cities are accompanied by increased traffic on the road, exacerbating the problem of traffic congestion. To improve the management of existing road facilities, it is necessary to design road geometry, such as the number of lanes, as well as control conditions, such as traffic signal timings based on incoming traffic. If this problem is solved manually, it will take a long time and many trials and errors. Furthermore, finding an optimal solution will be impossible because traffic conditions are constantly changing. The course's instrctors use traffic simulation softwares - VISSIM and VISWALK, to solve this problem.
Simulation is a method of predicting real-world conditions by using a model, which is typically run on a computer. To determine whether the existing infrastructure is adequate, you can use software such as VISSIM to simulate traffic flow conditions and VISWALK to simulate pedestrian flow. This study is useful for engineers and planners who are tasked with advising policymakers on road and pedestrian infrastructure investments.
This course was created by expert faculty with over 4 years of industry and academic experience from institutions such as the University of California at Berkeley, Cambridge Systematics, and ARS Traffic and Transport Technology.
