Both Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. announced movie production co-financing partnerships with Legendary Entertainment Company in 2005.

Legendary Pictures, Legendary Television, and Legendary Animation are the departments that Legendary Entertainment controls and manages. In 2016, Wanda Group, a Chinese conglomerate, bought the company, and Legendary Entertainment is still its wholly-owned subsidiary. As of early 2021, Legendary Entertainment is downsizing its activities in many of its less profitable subsidiaries in order to focus on its core business categories of cinema and television.
