Matobo Caves
Matobo Caves is the second name on the list of the most beautiful caves in Zimbabwe. Matabeleland's Matobo National Park is known for its rock formations and boulders. The granite hills and kopjes that stretch for miles are now a haven for wild animals, but the caves in this area were once inhabited, as evidenced by numerous artifacts. Cave exploration in the Matobo region is fascinating because there is a wealth of archaeological evidence, such as rock paintings, ancient grain bins, and caves where people sought refuge from attacking tribes. There are a number of Iron and Stone Age ruins scattered throughout the region. Njelele is the name of one of the most popular caves.
The Njelele Shrine is located in the Matobo National Park's southernmost region. It is one of Zimbabwe's most important Rainmaking shrines. Spirit mediums gather here to conduct rain-making ceremonies to "ask for the rain" from ancestral spirits, and it is sacred to those who follow the African Traditional Religion. Mabweadziva or Matonjeni are other names for Njelele. The caves and hills in Matobo are also significant because of their geological value; over thousands of years of climatic processes, Mother Nature has produced some fascinating results, such as beautiful rock formations.
