  1. The Chinhoyi Caves are Zimbabwe's most visited caves. The Caves are a geological feature in Chinhoyi, a small town in the Mashonaland West province of Zimbabwe. The caves are made up of a series of limestone caverns that stretch for miles. A semi-transparent bluish pool deep inside the main cave is considered sacred. When first entering the caves, first-timers will find them dark and eerie, with a sense of mystery about them. So much is said about the pool, but one of the most popular stories is that it was named the Pool of the Fallen or "Chirorodziva" after a local chief (Chief Chinhoyi) threw some raiders who had attacked his community.

Deep diving in the pool is an option for the brave. The caves and the area around them are thought to have been inhabited for hundreds of years. Grain bins can be found in the area as proof of this. The Chinhoyi Caves are a recreational park that is ideal for a day trip or as a pit stop on the way to Kariba or Mana Pools.

  2. Matobo Caves is the second name on the list of the most beautiful caves in Zimbabwe. Matabeleland's Matobo National Park is known for its rock formations and boulders. The granite hills and kopjes that stretch for miles are now a haven for wild animals, but the caves in this area were once inhabited, as evidenced by numerous artifacts. Cave exploration in the Matobo region is fascinating because there is a wealth of archaeological evidence, such as rock paintings, ancient grain bins, and caves where people sought refuge from attacking tribes. There are a number of Iron and Stone Age ruins scattered throughout the region. Njelele is the name of one of the most popular caves.

The Njelele Shrine is located in the Matobo National Park's southernmost region. It is one of Zimbabwe's most important Rainmaking shrines. Spirit mediums gather here to conduct rain-making ceremonies to "ask for the rain" from ancestral spirits, and it is sacred to those who follow the African Traditional Religion. Mabweadziva or Matonjeni are other names for Njelele. The caves and hills in Matobo are also significant because of their geological value; over thousands of years of climatic processes, Mother Nature has produced some fascinating results, such as beautiful rock formations.

  3. Chikupo Caves is the next name on the list of the most beautiful caves in Zimbabwe. The Chikupo Cave is a national monument in Mashonaland Central's Bindura district, in a rural communal area. Chikupo is a little further down the road from Ngomakurira, and for those who want to see more, the two can be combined into one trip.

The Chikupo Caves have the largest number of paintings of any site in Zimbabwe, with many in excellent condition. On the east side of the hill, the Chikupo caves can be found by following the path and then turning right up a short scree slope. Three caves are within walking distance of each other. There are rock paintings and other archaeological evidence in three caves. The Southern and Central caves are relatively easy to access, but the Northern cave has a slick exterior rock face that is best climbed from the western end. The Western cave is the most difficult to reach of the three caves, and can only be reached by scrambling over the bare granite hill's neck. The cave is visible above you once you've passed through it. Alternatively, walk west around the hill's base.
