Mausoleum of Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda

The first president of Malawi, Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda, is buried in Kamuzu Mausoleum, which is located on the Presidential Way near to the parliament building. The mausoleum's construction was completed in 2006.

The letters of his most treasured ideals, 'Unity,' 'Loyalty,' 'Discipline,' and 'Obedience,' are carved onto four pillars in this marble and granite tomb, and his photo adorns the entryway.

Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda was born on May 14, 1898, and reigned from 1961 to 1994, dying on November 25, 1997, at the age of 99. Tourists who want to learn more about Malawi's founding father, known as "The Lion," can do so at the mausoleum's library and study center.
