Men in Black III (2012)
Men in Black 3 is a 2012 American science fiction action comedy film directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and starring Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, and Josh Brolin. It is the third installment in the Men in Black film series and the final film in the original trilogy, which is loosely based on Lowell Cunningham's comic book series The Men in Black. It came out fifteen years after the first Men in Black film (1997) and ten years after the first sequel, Men in Black II (2002). Sonnenfeld and Steven Spielberg both returned as directors and executive producers.
Will Smith proposed the film's premise to director Barry Sonnenfeld during the filming of Men in Black II in 2002, suggesting that his character, Agent J, travel back in time to save his partner, Agent K, while also exploring Agent K's backstory. Sonnenfeld stated that the concept "turned out to be a very long process of development, primarily due to the knotty issues of time travel". According to reports, Smith and executives were hesitant to bring Sonnenfeld back due to conflicts on the set of Men in Black II.
