In May 2015, she became a member of JYP's latest survival program SIXTEEN. After finishing surviving in 6th place, she approached a member of Twice's girl group. The group officially debuted on October 20, 2015 with their first mini album The Story Begins.
Besides, Sana was ranked 17th out of 1500 in the 2018 Annual Korean Music Voting. However, it was the highest-ranked Japanese idol in the history of polls. Sana is one of the nominees for the 100 Most Beautiful Faces of the Year for her.

In February 2021, Sana became the first member of Twice after she covered the Japanese band Kobukuro's 2020 single "Sotsugyou". The cover with an a cappella version was released as a digital single by Warner Music Japan. A version featuring Kobukuro himself was released in March 2021.
